On four and a half acres within Mandarin’s historic Joseph Hagan Grant, Gloriette de l’Orangeraie sits where citrus groves once stretched toward the St. Johns River. Built just across the property from the couple’s children, the two-bedroom cottage brings three generations within walking distance. Grandchildren can come and go easily, while the house remains a place wholly their own.
her dream, realized
For all the cottage’s closeness to family, the kitchen is where the homeowner’s own vision comes most fully into view. Limestone-toned cabinetry surrounds a saddle-stained island, while Calacatta Idillio with ogee edges and pale Zegora tile carried to the ceiling give the room its softer layers. A tapered mink hood anchors the range, framed by heritage brass sconces and shelf brackets. She had considered the space in remarkable detail long before construction began, and when it was finished, she called it the kitchen of her dreams.
THE NEIGHBORHOOD
Gloriette de l’Orangeraie sits in Mandarin, where the river has a way of working itself into the day. A morning walk might follow the boardwalk at Walter Jones Historical Park, while an afternoon on Julington Creek can stretch easily into dinner by the water. Citrus once shaped much of this landscape, and traces of that past remain in old homesteads, former grove land and roads shaded by mature oaks. San Jose Boulevard keeps restaurants, shopping and everyday errands close, but around Gloriette, Mandarin still feels defined by the St. Johns and the easy pace of life along it.
