The decision to build took several years, because it was never simply about a house. A lifelong Jacksonville resident, she wanted Estate Idylwild to feel continuous with the life she had already shaped here: rooted in relationships, generous in spirit and ready for the family beginning to grow around her. With her daughter starting a family of her own, the rooms were planned to welcome loved ones easily, both in the rhythm of everyday life and when everyone comes together.
old, made new
The design carries that sense of welcome through details chosen with personal meaning. In the kitchen, Taj Mahal stone, eggshell cabinetry and a mink-toned island bring warmth to the place where family gathers. In the great room, a reclaimed mantel sourced in Callahan rests against painted brick between built-ins carried to the ceiling, introducing something with history into the center of a new home. For days spent around the pool with family and guests, the cabana bath offers a lighter moment of flair: a fluted cerused-oak vanity paired with a two-toned mosaic of white penny tile and misty blue inlay. Together, the rooms feel composed but never overly serious, personal and entirely her own.
THE NEIGHBORHOOD
Estate Idylwild sits in Riverside at RiverTown along a part of the St. Johns where spending time on the water can become part of the day rather than a special occasion. Nearby, Trout Creek Park offers a boat ramp and boardwalk directly onto the river, while Shands Pier is an easy stop for fishing or an unhurried view across to the opposite bank. Jacksonville remains close enough for restaurants, culture and familiar routines, but the return home changes character as the roads narrow beneath mature trees and preserve land opens toward the river. By the time the St. Johns comes back into view, the city feels farther away than it is.
